Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Germany 2009-2010

Interessengebiet (fachlich)
English, Deutsch, Pädagogik, Filme über den zweiten Weltkrieg

Und Nun?
After six long months of waiting, I have recently been informed that Fulbright is awarding me an English teaching assistantship in Germany during the 2009-2010 academic year. I cannot describe the sense of satisfaction, knowing how much time and energy I devoted to the lengthy application process, but this will surely be an opportunity of a lifetime! The project I will carry out in Germany facilitates an intercultural understanding by rooting language learning in the realm of culture. While bringing facets of American life to German high school students, I will also compile a record of cultural material (with help from members of the school and surrounding community) that I can use in the American classroom later on.

Nick Totten

Nick Totten

njtd36@mail.missouri.edu

I'm Nick Totten, from the Kansas City suburb Raytown. I've been learning German since 2003, and I've been lucky enough to travel to Germany twice; I even lived in Tübingen for 10 months through an MU exchange program, which was amazing and I highly recommend. I love literature and even more so the thoughts behind it and how language is used to make it all work, which is why I'm in this German MA program. German is also, by the way, a really great language, like so many, and I am glad to have the opportunity to help others learn it. Learning languages and immersing oneself in a different culture (whether abroad or at home) very positively rounds one out as a person and strengthens one as well.
