From the Archives: German Club

The next time you visit the Department of German & Russian Studies in 448 Strickland Hall, feel free to get a closer look at this photo of the German Club of 1915-1916!

The inscription on the back of the photo, which I found when taking apart the frame to scan it, informs us: 

There is also a scholarship established in Nolle's name through the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society, of which he was a pioneering member and secretary for over 50 years.

German Club 1915-1916

This picture belonged to Alfred H. Nolle (top row, third from left), St. Charles, MO. After receiving a B.A. at the University of Missouri, he earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in German athte University of Pennsylvania. He spent most of his professional life at Southwest Texas State College, San Marcos, where he was Dean of the College. He retired about 1960 and died about 1979. Photo courtesy Luverne Walton.
