Thesis: A threefold analysis of Olivia Wenzel's "1000 Serpentinen Angst" ("1000 Coils of Fear")

Olivia Wenzel's debut novel "1000 Serpentinen Angst" occupies a special place in contemporary German literature as a work that puts intersectional feminist theory into practice. It openly confronts its audience with the reality of living in Germany as a Black person and what consequences this has for the individual. With my Thesis, I want to support the powerful piece that is Wenzel's book through an analysis from three very different but equally important angles: as queer utopia, as a trauma narrative, and as a travel narrative.

I am interested in any sort of writing that challenges literary norms and attempts to present alternatives to what has been established as a cultural canon especially in Germany, the land of "poets and thinkers" whose literary world seems to be stuck in a loop of self-congratulation and elitism, and elsewhere.
